On the water
An hour on the lake as the light goes, past houseboats, lotus beds and the little canals of the old lake villages.

On the water
Farmers trade vegetables boat to boat on the inner lake from first light. Gone by seven, so it means an early start.

On the water
Carved walnut ceilings, a front deck over the water and dinner served on board. Every one of our Srinagar trips includes at least one night.

On the water
Our home river. Runs with trained guides start near Kangan and Sonamarg, with gentler stretches for families and faster water for the rest.

On the water
Brown and rainbow trout in the Lidder and the Sindh. We arrange the licence from the Fisheries Department and a local ghillie who knows the beats.

Mountains
One of the highest cable cars in the world. Phase one to Kongdori, phase two to around 3,950 m on Apharwat when the wind allows.

Mountains
Beginner lessons on the lower slopes or guided powder days off Apharwat. Equipment is rented in Gulmarg and instructors are certified.

Mountains
Seven alpine lakes over eight days, from Sonamarg to Naranag. Demanding, and one of the most beautiful treks in India.

Mountains
Shorter than the Great Lakes, starting from Aru near Pahalgam. Camp beside Tarsar lake, cross into the Sundarsar valley and look down on Marsar.

Mountains
From the Sonamarg meadow up to the foot of Thajiwas glacier, with snow underfoot until early summer. Local pony owners lead the way.

Culture
The painted wooden Khanqah of Shah-e-Hamadan, the courtyards of Jamia Masjid, spice sellers and old bridges over the Jhelum.

Culture
Shalimar, Nishat and Chashme Shahi, built by Mughal emperors in the 1600s as summer retreats on the shore of Dal.

Culture
Watch papier-mâché being painted, pashmina woven on hand looms and walnut wood carved, in family workshops rather than showrooms.

Food
The great Kashmiri feast. Rista, rogan josh, tabak maaz and gushtaba, served on a shared trami. We can arrange a vegetarian version too.

Seasonal
For a few weeks each autumn the fields south of Srinagar turn purple. Walk the fields and see the stigmas being picked by hand.

Seasonal
Terraced beds of tulips below the Zabarwan hills, open for only a few weeks each spring. Go at opening time.

Seasonal
Harvest time in the orchards of north and south Kashmir. Pick from the trees and buy fresh juice at roadside stalls.

The old chinar trees of Naseem Bagh and Chinar Bagh turn red and gold. Best on a still morning with the leaves on the water.
